Whatever Day it is, it’s on the pre-show

Does it still count as New Day’s fourth straight tag title defense at Hell in a Cell if it’s not on the pay-per-view (PPV) portion of Hell in a Cell?

WWE.com

“Yes, Sunday during the WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day will battle the eccentric combination of Rusev & Aiden English.”

While we were wondering what WWE would add to the Kickoff show at 6PM Eastern on Sun., Sept. 16, the company quietly moved one of the championship matches already announced for the event to the pre-show.

This is especially interesting because they’ve also already booked another SmackDown Tag Title match for Super Show-Down in Melbourne on Oct. 6, and it only features one of these two teams. Being given a spot outside the main event (and, yes, jokes aside, this does mean the match doesn’t show up if you decide to watch Hell in a Cell 2018 on the Network in the future, because it’s technically on a different show called Hell in a Cell 2018 Kickoff) continues to send a message that Rusev Day doesn’t have much of a shot in San Antonio.

Can Aiden English and Rusev shock the world again?

We’ll see. Here’s the Hell in a Cell card (pre and main show) as it now stands:

  • Roman Reigns (c) vs. Braun Strowman in a Hell in a Cell match for the Universal championship
  • Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles (c) for the WWE Championship
  • Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Alexa Bliss for the Raw Women’s championship
  • Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Becky Lynch for the SmackDown Women’s Championship
  • Randy Orton vs. Jeff Hardy in a Hell in a Cell match
  • The Miz & Maryse vs. Daniel Bryan & Brie Bella
  • Drew McIntyre & Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins for the Raw tag team championship
  • Rusev Day vs. The New Day (c) for the SmackDown tag team championship (Kickoff match)
